Consistent with major cities around the world increased corporate presence and investment in downtown Kingston has created a cosmopolitan vibe, which includes many world class restaurants, hotels, lounges and a wide variety of leisure activities. However, Jamaican culture—music, film, food and canibus--made Kingston an intriguing destination and laid the groundwork for the transformation of this great city long before the corporate world embraced its value. Fun facts about Kingston:

  • Kingston is the birthplace of Rocksteady, Ska, Dub, Reggae, Dancehall, EDM, and Hip Hop/Rap, which makes it’s influence on today’s popular music trends second to no other city or country in the world.

  • Bob Marley came of age in downtown Kingston’s Trench Town community, along with many other key figures in reggae music and is regarded as the epic-center of the reggae genre.

  • Kingston is host to many major annual events, to include conferences, sporting events, concerts, showcases, fashion week, restaurant week, and more.

  • Kingston is surrounded by the most lush forms of nature, such as the Blue Mountains, Red Hills, Long Mountain and the Kingston Harbour.

  • Kingston Harbor is the seventh largest natural harbor in the world.

  • Kingston was founded on 22 July 1692, as a place for refugees and survivors of the 1692 earthquake that destroyed Port Royal.

  • In 2012 the population of Jamaica was estimated to be around 2.9 million. The population of Kingston area (Kingston and St. Andrew Parish) was estimated at approx. 651,880.

  • Over 1 million tourists visit Jamaica every year.
